Virginia Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws
Virginia car seat laws state children under the age of 8 must ride in an appropriate, federally approved car seat or booster seat. Virginia child passenger safety state law also requires that children ages 8 - 15 to be properly restrained in a federally approved child safety seat, booster seat or seat belt despite the seat location of the child pasenger. The driver is responsible for making sure all passengers are properly restrained or buckled, and officers can stop vehicles if children up to the age of 16 are not properly restrained.
