Vermont Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws
Vermont state law requires all children under the age ofto  16 be properly restrained. Children under the age of 1 and weighing less than 20 pounds must ride in a rear-facing car seat. Children over 1year of age and weighing more than 20 pounds should ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat until they are at least 8 years old. The car seat or booster seat should be appropriate for the child's age, height and weight, and should be used according to the seat manufacturer's instructions. Children ages 8 - 15 should ride in a properly fitted seat belt.
