Minnesota Child and Infant

Car Seat Safety Information

Minnesota Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws
Minnesota state law requires that children under the age of 4 be restrained in an appropriate and federally approved car seat or booster seat. Car seats must be installed and used according to the manufacturer's instructions. Children under 1 year of age and weighing less than 20 pounds must ride in a rear-facing car seat. Minnesota suggests that compliance with car seat safety law is a minimum safety standard and  that children remain in a booster seat to 80 pounds and remain in the back seat until the age of 13.
