Maryland Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws
Maryland state law requires all children under the age of 6 regardless of weight, or who weigh less than 40 pounds regardless of age, ride in a federally approved car seat or booster seat. Car seats must fit the child by age, height and weight, and the child must be secured in the seat and vehicle according to the instructions of the vehicle and car seat manufacturers.  All children under the age of 16 must wear a seatbelt. Children under the age of 16 cannot ride in unenclosed pickup truck beds.
