Maine Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws
Maine state law requires children under 40 pounds ride in a federally approved and properly secured car seat. Maine law also requires children under the age of 8 that weigh under 80 pounds tride in a car seat or belt-positioning booster seat. Children under the age of 18 must wear a seat belt if they are not seated in a car seat or booster seat.  Children under the age of 12 and weigh less than 100 pounds must ride in a rear seat if possible.
