Hello Friends!

Yesterday my dad celebrated his birthday, and turning 40 seems to be a big deal for grownups because my mom decided to have a HUGE party with balloons, fancy snacks, and a whole heck of a lot of family and friends.

Now, any time we are having company at my house, my mom is usually pretty crazy cleaning the house, baking, and giving me and my baby sister a bath while my dad runs around town picking up everything on the list my mom makes for him.

Yeah, it gets pretty crazy in my house before we have a party, but yesterday turned out to be a little more crazy, and scary than usual.

My mom had just finished cleaning our guest bathroom when she realized that me and my baby sister had not yet taken our baths for the party.  Now, there were two options at this point, mess up the guest bathroom that she just cleaned, or give us our baths in her bathtub.  I am sure you can guess which one she chose.

My mom asked me to help get my baby sister ready for her bath while she finished cleaning for the party.  I agreed and brought my sister into my parent’s bathroom.

As I started to get my baby sister ready for her bath, I heard something fall and break and my mom yell "shoot"!  As the loud roar of the vacuum started up, I could tell she was very busy, so I decided I would help her out by giving my baby sister her bath all by my big boy self!

I filled my parents tub with lukewarm water, the same as my mom does in our tub every night, and placed my baby sister into the tub.

As I started to wash her, I realized that I had forgotten the soap.  I could not wash my baby sister if I did not have any soap.

I started to look around when I spotted a very cool looking bottle with lots of colors and bubbles on it behind the toilet.

"Oh my goodness, that MUST be BUBBLE BATH" I yelled out excitedly to my baby sister

I stretched as far as I could to grab the bottle making sure not to leave my sister alone in the bath because my mom always says that my baby sister is too little to be in the bath by herself.

After a few tries, I was able to reach the bottle with my super cool big hands and started to pour the bubble bath into the tub.

After only a few seconds there were lots and lots of bubbles and I became very excited.  I could not wait for my turn to jump into the bubbles once my baby sister was done.

"Bubbles!"  Bubbles" I shouted excitedly to my baby sister when suddenly she started to cry.

She started to cry a little louder when my mom came into the bathroom to see what all the fuss was about.

"Look mom", I said, "I am being your super big helper and giving my baby sister a BUBBLE BATH!

My mom looked at the tub sort of confused as she walked towards the tub to see what was wrong with my sister.  She started to ask me where I got bubbles for the bath when she started to yell, "OH NO!  OH NO!"

My mom ran to the tub and grabbed my sister.  She ran over to the shower and turned the water on with both her and my baby sister inside.  I started to ask my mom why she was in the shower with her clothes on when suddenly my dad came into the bathroom.

"What's going on?" he asked.

After my baby sister stopped crying, my mom grabbed the phone to call poison control at 1-800-222-1222.  While the phone was ringing, she told my dad that I was trying to help her by giving my baby sister a bath all by myself, and that the bottle I thought was bubble bath was actually a cleaning chemical she left out to use when she cleaned her bathroom.

Now, my parents and teachers always tell me how dangerous chemicals are and that I should never touch them, so when I learned that the bubble bath bottle was a chemical, I became very sad.  I told my mom, dad and most of all, my baby sister that I was so very sorry, and that I did not mean to do anything bad.

My parents looked at each other and then my dad gave me a hug and told me that it was ok, and that I should never pick up a bottle of anything if I do not know for sure what it is, and that I must always make sure my parents are around if me or my baby sister is going to go into water.

So take my advice friends;

if you ever see ANY cans, bottles or containers laying around and you are not sure what it is, DON'T touch it, and quickly tell a grown up.  AND, never get into any water unless there is a grown up you know around that says it is ok and that they will watch you the whole time.

Also, make sure you tell your parents that they should NEVER leave you or your brother or sister alone near any water, or water source where water can easily collect like a bath tub (full or empty)!  AND...that they should ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS make sure that any dangerous cleaning products, and chemicals should ALWAYS be locked away where kids like us cannot find them purposefully or accidentally...okay?

Oh, and by the way, my baby sister was "A-OK" thank goodness, and my dad's 40th Birthday Party was nothing short of a 5 alarm "rager" that none of us will ever forget.  I cannot wait to see what type of par-tay my mom will throw when he turns 80!

Hello Friends!

Every night before bed, my family gathers in the family room to play.  I never know what each night will bring, I only know it is going to be awesome!

Some of my favorite family time activities include racing my super charged toy cars, building a tower with my building blocks, putting a puzzle together, or boogying down during a sizzlin' family dance party to my favorite music.

Well, last night family time was a little shorter than usual, and a lot scarier.

My dad and I were building a super gigantic tower with my building blocks while my mom was playing with my baby sister on the floor.  Just as I placed the last block on my super tower, it fell over on top of me and my dad.  "Timber" my dad shouted as blocks rained down on our noggins.

As we laid there in a pool of building blocks laughing, my mom reminded us that building blocks are only for big boys and girls and that we needed to clean them up when we were done to make sure my baby sister could not get a hold of them.

As my dad and I started to clean up the blocks we realized it could take a little while since they were spread out all over the place after hitting the hard floor.  My dad and I decided to have a race to see who could clean up the most blocks the fastest, but as soon as we started racing, the phone rang and my dad had to answer it.

My dad apologized and told me that he had to stay on the phone for a little bit, and asked me to finish cleaning up my blocks by myself before bed.  This was very disappointing since I was winning our clean up race, and now cleaning up this big mess was no longer going to be fun.

After a very long and boring time, I finally finished cleaning up all of my blocks.  As I placed the lid on the block's box, I noticed there was a bunch more blocks under the table in my family room.  I realized that they must have slid under the table when they hit the floor, but nobody else saw them, and I was tired of cleaning up, so I left them there for the next time I played blocks.  "I will clean them up next time" I thought to myself.

My dad called my mom into the other room to join him on the phone, and asked me to keep an eye on my baby sister.  My mom placed her on her play mat on the floor next to me, and went into the next room with my dad.

Now, whenever my parents ask me to keep an eye on my baby sister they are never gone for long and I ALWAYS watch her very closely to make sure she is safe.

When I am watching my sister, our favorite game is "funny faces" because she thinks it is very funny when I close my eyes and go "blah" "blah "blah" with my tongue out.  "Ok sis", I said, "here comes the funny face"!  I closed my eyes and began my silly noises with my tongue.  My baby sister was not laughing, so I decided that I would "blah" "blah" a little louder, and wave my hands next to my ears.

Still, I did not hear anything.

"Ok", I said, "here comes a super loud blah blah blah".

All of a sudden I heard my mom come in and ask me what I was doing and why I was being so loud, but before I could answer, she started to scream for my dad!

I opened my eyes and I saw my dad quickly move the table in my family room and pick up my baby sister.  He placed her flat on top of his arm with her face down towards the floor and then he started to hit the upper part of her back.  At first I thought he was burping her in some new weird way, but when I looked at my mom to ask what the heck he was doing, I noticed that she was crying and very scared as she watched my dad.

"WHATS HAPPENING?"  I yelled as I was suddenly very scared as well.

All of a sudden my baby sister started to cry as one of my red building blocks shot out of her mouth onto the floor.

Quickly, I realized what had happened, and I felt very sad and almost started to cry.  While my eyes were closed to play the funny face game, my sister must have seen the colorful blocks under the table and crawled over to them.  I guess she thought that my blocks were yummy snacks because she ate one and started to choke.

I told my mom that I knew those blocks were there and that I was going to clean them up the next time, and that I was very very sorry.  She gave me a big hug and told me that it was ok.  Then she thanked me for being brave and telling her, and for being so honest.

So take my advice friends;

The next time your mommy or daddy ask you to clean up your toys, make sure you listen and clean them ALL up because they are only trying to make sure nothing bad happens.  A toy that is left out could cause all sorts of problems.  You may have a baby brother or sister or a pet that could choke on it, or somebody could trip over it and hurt themselves, or your toy could get lost or even BROKEN if it is not put away!

Also, make sure you tell your parents that they should know how to perform CPR on a child in case you or your brother or sister is ever choking!  AND...that they should ALWAYS inspect the rooms you play in after you clean up to make sure that you did a good job because toys can hide under couches, tables, even rugs which could lead to scary situations....okay?

Oh, and by the way, my baby sister was not only totally fine after what I call, her Scary Snack Attack, but my entire family ended "family time" with a super silly game of "funny faces".  I laughed so hard I almost peed in my pants, and my baby sister definitely peed in her diaper.

Hello Friends!

Friday nights are "Movie Night" at my house, and every Friday afternoon after school my mom, me and my baby sister go to the market to get yummy snacks for the whole family to enjoy during the movie.

Well, last week's visit to the local market was actually more exciting and scary than the PG action thriller we watched that night!

When we arrived at the market I helped my mom find a shopping cart, and held it still while my mom placed my baby sister into the little part of the cart.  As we started into the store to visit my favorite aisle, the snack aisle, my mom mentioned she also had to pick up some diapers for my baby sister.  Unfortunately, I did not realize that she meant we were going to that aisle first.

Now, I never stray from my mother's side when we are out because I would never want to get lost, or stolen by a stranger, but today, my excitement got the best of me, and I continued on to the snacks aisle not realizing that my mom had turned down another aisle to get diapers for my baby sister

When I arrived at the snack aisle my eyes became very large with excitement.  I did not know what to pick first for our movie night, so I started grabbing everything I could hold in my little hands off the shelves.  As my cookies started to fall out of my arms, I realized that nobody was telling me to slow down, or put things back which was typical when I took too much junk food off the shelves.  When I turned around to find out why my mom was not telling me that I had too much junk food, I realized it was because she was not with me.

I started to call for my mom frantically, but she did not respond.  Then I remembered she said she was going to buy diapers, so I ran as fast as I could to the baby aisle, but she was not there either.

"OH NO!  I'M LOST", I cried out.

I continued to wander through the store calling for my mom wondering if I would ever see her again.  Why didn't I stay closer to her I thought.  As more time passed, I started to feel very scared and sad, and almost started to cry.  Suddenly a stranger approached.  The stranger asked me if I was ok, but I was hesitant to talk to her because my mom and dad always tell me never to talk to strangers.  The stranger told me that she worked at the store and that she could help me find my mom.  Unsure about whether I should talk to her or not, I told her that my mom went to buy diapers and I lost her.

The stranger took a walkie talkie out of her pocket, and I heard her say, "Sam, I have a lost little boy in aisle 10, could you please make an announcement"?

All of a sudden I heard my mom calling out for me, and my baby sister crying.  As she turned the corner she came running down the aisle with her wagon calling out to me and asking me if I was ok.  I told her that I did not realize she went to get the diapers first and that I got lost in the snack aisle.  I was very scared I was lost.

So take my advice friends;

The next time your mommy or daddy take you anywhere, make sure you ALWAYS stay close and don't wander off, even hold their hands if you can, because your mom or dad may make an unexpected turn or you may not hear them tell you where to go and all of a sudden you may find yourself lost and scared.  And make sure you tell your mommy and daddy that every time they take you ANYWHERE, they should always point out a safe place for you to go to meet them in case you do get separated, so that you do not have to rely on a stranger for help....okay?

Oh, and by the way, movie night rocked!  I got extra treats to help cheer me up, AND I got to stay up 30 minutes later than usual because of a wicked Friday Night sugar rush.

Hello Friends!

Every weekend my family and I set out on an awesome weekly adventure.  I never know where they are going to take me and my baby sister; I only know that every week they are going to take us somewhere new and exciting…and boy oh boy did last week’s adventure start out exciting!

It was early Saturday morning, and my mom and I had just buckled my baby sister into her car seat when my dad appeared on the front porch asking my mom where his wallet and keys were.  We all had a good chuckle when my mom asked him if he checked his pockets and it turned out, his wallet was right there in his pants pocket. Ha – Ha!

But…his keys were missing, and without them we could not start the car which meant we couldn’t go on our weekly family adventure!

As time passed, I started to become worried that we were going to miss this week’s adventure.  As my baby sister lay next to me sleeping in her car seat, I watched my parents from the back seat for almost 10 minutes as they frantically searched for their car keys; running in and out of the house as if we had a revolving front door.

Well…finally I decided that this was a job for Cruiser, so I unbuckled my seat belt, and jumped out of the car, to join in the frantic search for the missing car keys.

As I started for the house a powerful gust of wind came along and it slammed my door shut. I quickly started back for the car realizing that I left my baby sister all alone when suddenly I heard her start to cry.  My baby sister was not hurt, but started crying because she was scared by the loud noise of the car door slamming shut.  Now if it was me, I definitely would not have cried like my baby sister, but I have to admit, I would have been scared too if I was left all alone in a car.

My parents heard the ruckus and ran to my side to see what was up. We were all very worried when we realized that the car doors were locked with my baby sister crying all alone inside the car.  Then suddenly, my dad said, “OH NO, THE KEYS ARE INSIDE THE CAR!” as he pointed through the window.

After all that searching the keys were on the dashboard of the car so my dad would not forget them!

Well to make a very long and crazy story short, we called 911 and the police had to come and unlock my parent’s car door so that we could rescue my baby sister, AND go on our weekly adventure.

So take my advice friends;

The next time your mommy and daddy have to leave the car to find their missing keys, grab a coffee, hit the money machine, or lord knows what else, just remember to remind them that they should ALWAYS take you and your baby brother or sister out of the car with them.  Leaving us kids alone in a car for even 1 minute is 1 minute too long...okay?

Oh, and by the way, we had an AWSOME weekly family adventure.  We went to the local ice rink and I melted the ice with my fiery speed on my hockey blades of fury!

Hello Friends!

Ya know, the other day my parents and I were going on a long car ride for our big winter ski trip.  You should have seen the trunk, I think my dad fit our whole house in there!

Well because it was a long car trip, my dad put a cooler of cold drinks and snacks between me and my baby sister’s car seat, but what we did not know was that the cooler was sitting on top of the seat belt buckle, and accidentally unfastened it!

Fortunately for all of us, but especially my baby sister, my dad did not get too far before he had to stop abruptly and my baby sister’s car seat fell forward into the back of my mommy’s seat.

My baby sister was not hurt, but started crying because she was scared, and my dad quickly pulled over to re-secure her car seat.

Now if it is was me, I definitely would not have cried like my baby sister, but I have to admit, I would have been scared too.

So take my advice friends;

The next time your mommy or daddy puts anything next to you or your baby brother or sister’s car seat, make sure that it is secure so it won't move around during the trip or if you are in an accident, and definitely make sure it is NOT sitting on the seat belt buckle...okay?

Oh, and by the way, we had an AWSOME ski trip.  My snowboard was wicked smooth and I thrashed that mountain.
