Colorado Child and Infant

Car Seat Safety Information

Colorado Child Safety Seat and Seat Belt Laws
Colorado state law states that it the driver's responsibility to make sure that all children in the vehicle are always properly buckled into a seat belt or car seat.  Babies must ride in a rear-facing car seat until they are 1 year of age and at least 20 pounds. Children ages 1 to 4 and between 20 and 40 pounds must ride in an appropriate car seat. All car seats must be labeled as meeting FMVSS 213 standards (car seats available in U.S. stores should already be labeled as such).  Children over the age of 4 but under the age of 6 must ride in a booster car seat unless they are over 55 inches tall. Children under 16 years of age must be buckled into a seat belt. Children may ride in pickup truck beds in Colorado as long as the tailgate is closed and all children are sitting down.
